<image:caption>As the legend is told, Sister Missionary Position’s Intimate Hairs spontaneously curled during her first Ecclesiastical Nocturnal Orgasm. Rumor has it that when Prince heard this, he was inspired to write “When Doves Cry” “Your hair is like a flock of goats descending from Mount Gilead” Songs of Soloman. -“I’m not a dove, but believe me I cried!” Prince.</image:caption>

<image:title>Possible Mothers from Argentina - The Possible Mothers Series</image:title>
<image:caption>These paintings are part of a body of work tracing the search for the identity of the birth mother of my close friend, Michelle Morby. Michelle was adopted in Buenos Aires in 1973, just before the advent of the “Dirty War”. No birth certificate or hospital records exist documenting Michelle’s birth. Her mother’s name was falsified-she does not exist on paper. The images in this series are taken from the “Wall of Memory”, a memoir of photos of 800 of the “Disappeared”. During the period from 1968-1986, approximately 30,000 Argentine citizens were systematically Disappeared. In this regime of fear, photos, books, letters, address books, etc, were often buried or burned, so as to produce no paper trail to others, or “evidence” to be used against the individual. Thus, many of the victims of this regime exist only as memories. The images in these paintings reflect the various decomposing states of these remaining photos. Each is inspired from individual photographs, but represents a montage of faces, rather than any one person. Like memories, they fade, become obscured, clouded, or break down over time. In essence, these are paintings of ghosts. These paintings are oil paint over encaustic (melted beeswax and resin) on rusted 18″ x 24″ industrial baking sheets, which are subsequently sunk in resin. The use of snakeskin in some of the pieces references an attempt to trace a life that once was , piecing together incomplete fragments and remaining physical clues. They also mimic the pixelation in the downloaded photos from the “Wall of Memory”. Some photos are so damaged or badly reproduced that they are almost abstract- offering little or no information about the person they seek to represent. Using this method, I created 18 possible mother’s for Michelle.</image:caption>

<image:title>Deep Water Series - Deep Water, Installation Shot at the DeYoung Museum, October 2014</image:title>
<image:caption>This body of work was created in response to the double suicide of my step daughter and close friend last October by the same method, eight days apart. My friend Monica Maduro was the youngest member ever on the board of directors at the de Young Museum. I was staying at her house on October 9th, 2013, the night my partner found our beloved daughter Emily Brewer dead. Monica followed on October 17th. The show, “What Tethers Us?”, was held on October 17th, Monica's day, and I brought together 18 artists from the community, with musicians (a marching band Monica was once a part of), a couture collection, a performance group, individual acts, and sound healers. It was a confirmation of life and connectedness in response to despair. Creating this work was the most profound artistic experience of my life. It truly healed, and I am honored to share it. “DEEP WATER” A series which uses water as metaphor for emotional and psychological states. “ When in deep water, become a diver. ” -(Celtic Rune, Uruz Reversed) The set consists of two triptychs. Each painting is 4 ft wide and 7 ft tall, consisting of oil paint and hand dyed papers on wood and aluminum, with three dimensional objects (bones, teeth, sea glass, flowers, razor blades, etc.) sunk in epoxy resin. Each painting is self standing, with a welded aluminum stand, and felt bottoms.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Deep Water Series - “Going Under”</image:title>
<image:caption>As self doubt and insecurities take over, she drowns in the words “never good enough.” She is no longer struggling, and we catch her gaze as she sinks. The distortion in the image alludes to her view being so clouded; she can no longer see herself.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Deep Water Series - “Release”</image:title>
<image:caption>We have lost our girl and now must let her move to the next plane in peace. The empty bird’s nest is obvious symbolism, but this piece also includes locks of Emily’s hair and cut flowers from her altar that miraculously did not die for three full months. The frame is 150 coyote bones which represent an animal who often cries alone.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Deep Water Series - “Interior Struggles”</image:title>
<image:caption>This is the first piece of the second triptych. She seems to be drowning in her own fears but actually faces them. The real human teeth falling out of her mouth is a recurring nightmare I’ve had which represents loss of control. The bottom of the painting conjures her deepest, darkest fears. She almost tumbles headlong into the abyss, her bound arms exclaiming helplessness.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Deep Water Series - “Turning Point”</image:title>
<image:caption>Our heroine experiences a 180 degree turning point and begins to see light at the end of her tunnel. She sheds her old self doubt, in the form of a snake skin (actually shed from Emily’s pet snake). The year of their suicides was also the Chinese Year of the Black Water Snake.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Deep Water Series - “Hope”</image:title>
<image:caption>This is the final piece and represents an ascension into the light. Uplifting feelings of hope and possibility rise like pearls to the surface of the brightening water. She is transformed by facing her demons and refusing to give in. She is weightless and joyful, engaging new horizons and embracing her future.</image:caption>

<image:title>The Butterfly Effect (Greta Thunberg) - Make it stand out</image:title>
<image:caption>This piece is a tribute to Greta Thunberg, a young girl whose visionary Climate Strike at the age of 15 led to a worldwide Climate Movement. She is surrounded by, and connected to, the lifecycles of the Milkweed Plant and the Monarch Butterfly, both endangered species. The broken mirror fragments reflect one’s own image back at the viewer, asking “What ( small thing ) am I doing to harm or heal earth’s fragile ecosystem ?” The mirror shards appear to scatter like seeds on the wing, spreading this message out into the world. The butterfly that flies free of the piece carries these shards as a symbolic gesture of hope for humanity and raising awareness of our deep connection to all of nature. Oil on board with glass beads, rose quartz crystals, sea glass, amber, epoxy clay, fiberglass, and ecopoxy resin. 5’1” x 5’4” x 4” (dimensions variable, as butterfly is a separate piece). 2023.</image:caption>
